Later Life Companions

Here I am having just moved into a new rental with my rescue dog in a village in Guatemala. Then BOOM, Covid happens. Suddenly all borders are closed, there are curfews, there are no flights.

Here I am having just moved into a new rental with my rescue dog in a village in Guatemala.

Then BOOM, Covid happens. Suddenly all borders are closed, there are curfews, there are no flights.

Then, I hear about lockdowns in the UK. At that moment I’m thinking OMG, I probably can’t travel to the UK for my dad’s 95th birthday. I’m even wondering if I will ever see my mum and dad again …

... My elderly relatives are totally isolated, not even younger relatives close-at-hand can visit them to offer much needed companionship.

Like many of you, I wonder what on earth I can do. What can I do to support my older relatives so they feel less cut off, less isolated, less afraid?

I put myself in the shoes of my older relatives. I mean let's face it, it’s no secret that loneliness and isolation can be devastating to mental and physical health. I have to do something. So, I set up weekly Zoom calls with my elderly relatives so that they do have a listening ear, they do have companionship, they can actually see me and read my facial expressions.

Coming off these calls it's clear to me, OMG, this WORKS!

That’s why I now offer these video calls out to the wider public with my amazing team of Later Life Companions.

Let’s make sure people in later life get to live their lives to the full. In these times where families and friends tend to live further apart, the need for meaningful connection, companionship and a listening ear has become even more vital to the older generations than ever before.

    Much love,

    Hannah
